Interactive SEC Football Statistics Help | ||||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
Thank you for using TYGR Productions' Interactive SEC Football Statistics! The statistics are presented
in a series of tables containing related information, as indicated by the title in the first row of each table. Each
table has controls for sorting the information by selected statistic, and for configuring the ranking calculation. A
set of controls at the top of the form allows the user to configure the display in a variety of ways. The statistics
are provided strictly for individual entertainment purposes. Although every effort will be made to keep the information
updated in a timely fashion, TYGR Productions cannot guarantee the maintenance of these pages or the availability of any
servers on which they are hosted.
Note: Some of the functions of the interactive statistics require that cookies be enabled on the user's computer. These are standard data cookies, are not used to track information unrelated to the interactive statistics, are not used by TYGR Productions to report information to any other computer or network, and should be compatible with most cookie scanning software (e.g., Spyware Doctor). Column Tips | ||||||||
|
Pause the mouse pointer over a column heading and after a couple of seconds a detailed description will pop up:

||||||||
Sorting | ||||||||
|
Click on a column heading and the table will be sorted by the selected statistic. The current sorting for a table is
indicated by highlighted cells, as well as the text in the table's status bar:
![]() The statistics will be arranged best-to-worst with the best team at the top. Note that the values will be in either ascending or descending order depending upon the particular stat and table. Menu |
||||||||
Rank | ||||||||
|
Each table has a Rank column that displays a calculated team ranking for the current table according to the selected
statistics. To select/deselect a stat for ranking, click on the column footer. If an 'X' appears in the footer,
that stat is currently included in the rankings. The team rank is obtained by first calculating an ordinal for
each selected statistic. The team with the best number for a particular stat is given an ordinal of 1 for that
stat. The next best team is given a 2, etc. Teams that are tied are given the same ordinal, and the
next best team(s) is(are) given the next ordinal, which is one greater than the number of teams with better numbers for
the given stat. Finally, the team rank is determined by averaging the team's selected ordinals and rounding
to a tenth of a point. For example, here's the Passing Offense table with just the TD column selected:

Weighted Ranking | ||||||||
When Weighted ranking is selected, the team rank calculation is modified as follows: The team with the best number for a particular stat is given an ordinal of 1 for that stat. The team with the worst number is given an ordinal of 12. The other teams are given an interpolated, or "weighted", ordinal depending on where their number falls in the range between best and worst. The team rank is determined by averaging the team's selected ordinals. For example, here's the Passing Offense table with just the TD column selected:
Note: Statistics that are not simple numbers are not affected by weighted ranking. These include passing attempts/completions, time of possession, kicks made/attempted, and won-lost records. If any of these statistics are selected for ranking when weighted ranking is turned on, the individual ordinals for these statistics will be calculated without weighting. Menu |
||||||||
Total Table | ||||||||
|
The Total table contains the current aggregate rankings from all the other tables. When a statistic
is selected or deselected for ranking in any table, the Total table is automatically recalculated. The
Avg column contains a numerical average of all the current ranks (not just the selected ones). The Rank
column is the same as in the other tables, i.e., an averaged ordinal of the selected columns:

Display Controls | ||||||||
|
At the top of the page are a number of controls which can be used to quickly configure the display. The current
selection in each control is saved and is restored automatically the next time the statistics are loaded.

Profile | ||||||||
|
A "profile" is a set of rank selections and sort selections for all the tables. Use this feature to quickly
setup the tables according to saved settings. For example, your Webmaster has a profile named "avgOnly" which deselects
all the statistics that are totals, and includes only the per-game- and per-attempt-type stats in the rankings. In addition,
all of the tables are sorted by the Rank column. This comes in handy for comparing rankings when the teams have
played different numbers of games. The profile controls:
![]() Create a Profile: First, select and deselect statistics in each table for ranking as desired. Also, sort each table as desired. Then, type a name in the New profile box (12 characters max, no spaces) and press the Save button. If a profile with the same name already exists, a warning dialog will be displayed allowing the operation to be cancelled before overwriting the existing profile. Note: You cannot replace the default profile. Load a Profile: Click on the Load profile drop-down and select the desired profile to load. All of the tables will be redrawn according to the saved settings. The standard default profile sorts all the tables by team name, and selects all the statistics for ranking except for the Avg column in the Total table. Press the Reload button to quickly reload the displayed profile. Delete a Profile: Press the Del button. A warning dialog will be displayed allowing for the operation to be cancelled. Note: You cannot delete the default profile. Menu |

Format | ||||||||
|
The tables are constructed according to one of three available formats: Default, Compact, and Row dividers.
The Default format allows the user's browser to space the columns and rows, and draw the borders
around the table cells. This format will load and redraw the quickest. The
Compact format uses code to precisely control the width of each column, manually draws the borders of cells, and
packs the rows closely together. The Row dividers format is the same as Compact with the addition
of lines between the table rows. This is the most complex format, and will load and redraw the slowest:
To choose the desired display format, click on the Select format drop-down and select from the list.

Favorite Team | ||||||||
|
If desired, select from the Favorite team drop-down:
![]() If a favorite team is selected, that team's row will be drawn with the school's colors in each table. To obtain the colors for each school, the official web site for the university was searched for official colors. If these were not readily discoverable, the official athletic site for the university was loaded and team colors sampled from the home page. From there, some tweaking was done to ensure good visibility and provide balance between hardware configurations (testing was done on both flat panel displays and CRTs). Unfortunately, color varies between video display hardware, monitors, operating systems, and even web browsers. Hopefully, the final results will prove to be serviceable on most systems. If necessary, select None from the Favorite team drop-down to turn off the highlighting. Menu |
